After installing Open Office 4.1.1 on my Windows 7 PC I found that, when I opened Word in my existing MS Office, many but not all of the files in the directory had an icon suggesting they were Open Office, though they still opened in Word. I have not yet worked out the basis for the difference eg it doesn't seem to be a function of when the file was created. One file (so far) opened however in Open Office and changes saved into that but not into Word. I want to use Open Office for a separate set of activities and have my Word files unaffected. How can I do this?
